Warning!

“I will walk within my house in the integrity of my heart.
I will set no worthless thing before my eyes;
I hate the work of those who fall away;
It shall not fasten its grip on me.”
Psalm 101:2b-3

Please hear me, dear sons, this oath should be uttered by all who belong to God, who seek to worship Him, and to be of His service. In our day, I believe that this is referring to television and video games and social media. Research has shown that video games are as addictive as drugs and alcohol and make the user just as useless to society. It stunts their ability to work effectively and to find joy in their work. It draws them in for hours of wasted time, but it also dulls the mind and rewires the brain to desire pleasure without effort. It will also affect your worldview and desensitize you to things that God abhors – violence, killing, misuse of sex, and language. This is also true of many of the popular television shows.

I think the worst of these consequences is the stealing of your time. Time that you could be using for activities that would better yourself and prepare you for the future that God has for you – physically, mentally, and spiritually. Those who are spending hours in front of the screen – how much time are you spending reading God’s word each day? I was told as a teenager who wanted to study the cults that I needed to spend twice as much time in the Bible as I did studying the cults, because of the satanic influence. I would challenge you to do the same.

I love you all so much and hate to see video games and television shows fasten their grip on you. Be about things that glorify God. Be involved in sports, in church, in relationships, etc…. Leave the video games and drugs and alcohol to those who have no future in Christ.
