The End Game: Trust
“But You, O Lord, are a shield about me,
My glory, and the One who lifts my head.
I lay down and slept;
I awoke, for the Lord sustains me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who have set themselves against me round about.
Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God!
Salvation belongs to the Lord…”
Psalm 3:3, 5, 6, 7, 8
The Greek phalanx was a group of soldiers who gathered together in a group with their shields pointed outwards and above them – like a turtle in its shell. God’s shield is “about me” as well. It is all around me encompassing me on all sides. Nothing gets through except what God allows. He is my protection. Because of this, I can lay down and sleep in peace and trust. He sustains me – every breath, every step, every thought, every need. He is my provider.
When we know the character of God then we can live without fear. God has it covered! If harsh circumstances touch my life it is only because God deemed it necessary to grow me or to discipline me. And He promises to go through these times with me! Fear will paralyze, trust will set free. Trust is the maturity of the Christian. It is the end game. It is the goal. Each time we trust God, and He proves Himself faithful, we are better able to trust again.
