Be Not Cast Down – HOPE!
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul?”
Psalm 43:5
Indeed! What a glorious God we serve! “Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!…For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.” Romans 11:33&36
According to George Mueller, a man of prayer and of faith in 19th century England, there are only ever two reasons to be cast down. One is when a person does not know Christ Jesus as their Savior. The other is when a Christian is living in sin. He goes on to say, “Oh, remember this: there is never a time when we may not hope in God. Whatever our necessities, however great our difficulties, and though to all appearance help is impossible, your our business is to hope in God, and it will be found that it is not in vain. In the Lord’s own time help will come.”
George Mueller ran several orphanages in London with several hundred children living under his care and protection. At times they would sit at the table praying for their meal when there was not a morsel to prepare. Each time, God answered in miraculous ways. One day a milk truck broke down right outside of their front door as the children sat praying for their meal. The driver gave his whole supply to them that it might not go bad and spoil! Mr. Mueller spent hours upon his knees in prayer. God always supplied in His time and in His way. There are a couple of great biographies written on George Mueller. It would be worth your time to learn of this man of prayer.
We know the verses in Philippians that say, “Be anxious for nothing, but through prayer and supplication make your requests known to God…” (Philippians 4:6) Here is the answer in Psalm 28:6-7 – “Blessed be the Lord
Because He has heard the voice of my supplication.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart exults,
And with my song I shall thank Him.”
