Be Still
“Be still and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10
“Learning to be quiet can be uncomfortable. I think it’s because only in stillness can we hear God’s voice – and God’s voice isn’t always a comfortable thing. We’re like Jonah, running away, insisting on our own way. Must have been awfully quiet inside that whale. No one to talk to, nowhere to run. Jonah had to finally face himself – and God. “
“As she worked, she felt the stillness touching her, like a warm and gentle hand. A verse from Isaiah 32 came into her head: ‘and the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever. And My people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, a and in quiet resting places.’ She smiled. The quiet that she had sensed all along in this little house no longer made her uneasy, she knew now that it was God’s presence. At last, her heart could hear His quiet voice.”
