Surgery by the Great Physician

|

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword,
and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow,
and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12

Surgery. It hurts! But before you go under the knife, you have to choose to have the surgery done. This surgery is like a circumcision – cutting away the superfluous, protecting you from allowing a cancer to take hold. This surgery takes bravery, courage, and trust in the Great Physician. He will know just where to cut and what to leave. He will reveal the truth of your heart to you so that you will give Him permission to cut away all that is infected with self and sin. And “the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32).

An infection won’t heal until you lance it and let the poison out. Then it can begin to mend and you will be free from pain and further damage. Spiritually this means being honest with God and yourself. When God reveals something in your life that you have believed that is false, or He shows you a sin that you have not confessed and put aside, you have to allow His word to cut deeply with the truth, and you have to release the lie and sin and let the truth invade your mind. Truth is the medicine that will heal, but it must be applied regularly.

There is freedom on the other side! Once the pride, self-hatred, sin, etc… is cut out, then grace can begin its work. And grace is amazing! It frees you up to a right relationship with the Creator God. It frees you from self-recrimination and the chains and disease of Satan. The world will look more lovely. Your hope will flourish. You will revel in praise and thanksgiving. Your desire will be to learn more and to go deeper in with God. May we each be willing to go under the laser precision of the knife of truth in prayer asking God to do what must be done to free us spiritually from disease and sin.

Summer fun!
