Jesus Our High Priest
“Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus,
took His outer garments and made four parts,
a part to every soldier and also the tunic;
now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece.”
John 19:23
At the cross, we see Jesus as our Savior and King, but here we also see Him as our High Priest. The only other garment mentioned in Scripture that was woven in one piece is the High Priest’s tunic of Exodus. This tunic was worn by the High Priest as he entered into the Holies of Holies once a year to present the sacrifice lamb for the atonement of the nation of Israel. Attached to the bottom were bells so that the other priests outside of the curtain could tell the coming and going of the High Priest. Jesus is our High Priest. He was also the sacrificial lamb. But He was able to tear down the barrier of the curtain between us and God (Matthew 27:51 – “And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.”) No longer do we need a human high priest to intercede for us. Rather we have the eternal and true High Priest seated at the right hand of the father making intercession for us! Can you see it? Try to picture in your mind Jesus sitting next to God and on His other side you standing. Jesus turns to the Father and says, “Dara believes in Me. My blood has covered all of her sins. She desires now to bow before You as Her God.” And God says, “Come, My precious child.”
Jesus is the perfect High Priest. “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16). Are you taking the time to draw near? Are you seeking a deeper walk with God?
God love you and wants to fellowship with you.
