Hope in Giving
“Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart,
not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you,
so that always having all sufficiency in everything,
you may have an abundance for every good deed…”
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
In a world of get more, get better, get mine, it is hard for the Christian to tithe and to offer offerings of thanksgiving. But God promises that if we are faithful in giving cheerfully, then He will provide for all our needs. It’s God’s economy that doesn’t necessarily make sense to us here on earth. But when we give from the first of our produce, God overflows our homes with all that we need!
Dad and I chose to tithe from the beginning. Many times it was difficult to write that tithe check first before we met the needs of the family, but we did it believing that God would supply, and boy! did He! From braces, to clothes, to cowboy boots, God met every material need that we had and many that we just wanted!
What role does money play in your life? Is it a means to meet your desires, or is it a blessing from God given that you might give to others? There is great joy in giving.
Jessie, my Sweet friend who gives of herself willingly and joyfully!
