What Really Happened at the Cross? A New Heart
“And I will give them one heart,
and put a new spirit within them.
And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh
and give them a heart of flesh,
that they may walk in My statues and keep My ordinances,
and do them.
Then they will be My people, and I shall be their God.”
Ezekiel 11:19-20
My Easter cake mold of a lamb is hard cast iron. It is empty on the inside, and cold and hard on the outside. But when I put new ingredients on the inside and bake them, I get a great tasting (Applesauce-raisin spice cake), soft treat. My life was like that mold before Jesus came in and turned me into something sweet! I had a hard exterior of self-preservation and self-protection. I craved to be filled with love and joy, but found myself empty. When I accepted the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ because of the work that He did on the cross, God filled me up with a heart of flesh. I was able to feel again. I was able to accept love and radiate joy. God takes the heart of stone – cold, prideful, selfish, independent, and turns it into a heart of flesh able to walk in God’s way and to keep God’s word and to have a relationship with the Father.
Upon the cross, Jesus spoke, “It is finished.” All that we need is found there at the cross – love, acceptance, affirmation, hope, joy, and peace.
