Heart Attack – Regular Checkups

The next several blogs will be titled “Heart Attack” “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.” Proverbs 4:23  If you want to avoid a spiritual heart attack, you must watch over your heart.  How do we watch over our hearts?  First of all it is not a one time action, it is ongoing.  We are to be watching over our heart.  Then, we are to do it diligently.  That means with effort, constancy, intentionality, and with purpose.  We watch over our hearts by regular checkups, watching what we put into our hearts,... Kids of Truth

“I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.” 3 John 1:4 Math is important and so is reading, history, and science, but if our children have all of that and are not walking in truth, it will get them nowhere.  I am at a homeschool convention in Memphis.  There are hundreds of venders.  There are thousands of good books, curriculum, cd’s, etc… There is some really good stuff out there.  I wish more had been available when we started homeschooling back in the late 80’s.  But the Bible does not change and in... Surprise!

“Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God.  For it is pleasant and praise is becoming.”Psalm 147:1 What a surprise!  Eighteen years ago today our twins were born.  We did not expect twins, had never really thought about having twins, and didn’t know we carried twins until the 7th month.  Surprise!  And what a joyous surprise it was! That surprise came with a lot of work, a lot of insecurity, and a lot of prayer, but also a lot of rewards! Not all surprises are joyous at the moment.  A flood or tornado, a sickness or... Contentment

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…” Genesis 1:1 What a beautiful land that we live in!  From the plains and grasslands of the west to the hills and mountains of South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky, and up into the trees of the Midwest, there is beauty all around us.  And to think that all of this is after sin entered into the world and the flood came with catastrophic upheaval of the land masses.  What beauty God can make from chaos!!! As I soaked in the green trees and colorful birds and playful squirrels of the... Read More

God’s Supply

“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:19 We raise our hands in praise today for God’s goodness.  We were short of paying for the books that we had printed for this year’s shows.  Our tax return covered a huge portion, but we were short by $1000.  We decided not to tell anyone else, but to ask and wait upon the Lord.  George Mueller was our example as he prayed and waited upon God to feed his orphans in England. (If you haven’t read his biography, you should.  It is... Anger

“Be angry, and yet do not sin…” Eph. 4:26 I spoke on raising Godly children this past weekend and the issue of anger always comes up.  Anger is not a sin.  It is an emotion.  God was angry with His people when they worshipped idols.  We are made in His image and therefore, we get angry.  But!  What we do with that anger is our choice and sometimes that choice is sinful.  Anger is a signal that something is wrong.  That your needs are not being met.  That you are not feeling loved or affirmed or appreciated.  When a child... Unbelievable? What should we do?

“Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything to stand firm.  Stand firm therefore…”  Eph. 6:13-14 Are you battle ready!  Have you sat at the feet of Jesus, walked daily in His Word and in fellowship?  I hope so because the day has come to stand firm. That’s right.  It is totally unbelievable, but ABC is getting ready to air a program called GCB. That stand for Great Christian Bitches.  No, I am not kidding.  And the content is blasphemous, disrespectful, and ludicrous.  Am... Read More

Our Journey

I am so excited!  We had 21 boxes of books delivered to our door a few days ago!  That’s a lot of books!  Now we wait upon our God to give us opportunity to sell them!  What a mighty God we serve!  I originally responded to God’s prompt to write a book about 8 years ago.  We lived in a state where we felt it was best to school under a private school.  By doing so, we were required to offer the courses that they deemed necessary, although we had the right to choose the curriculum.  They required a class... A new year. A chance to try again

A new year.  A chance to try again, start over, reevaluate, and reapply old strategies. One year as I began a new year, I went over some things that I had been learning and realized that I did not touch my children as often as I had when they were littler.  With a 12 year old, an 11 year old, an 8 year old, and two five year olds, I was busy!  I cooked for them, read to them, listened to them read, cleaned the kitchen, did laundry, etc., but I had forgotten to touch.  I had not grown up... Transitions are tough!!

October 18, 2011 06:50 We are going through the mid-life transition as we approach empty nest. With the twins dual enrolling at the local community college for two classes, my teaching load has been greatly reduced. I find myself struggling with wanting to just be a mom (laundry, meals, cleaning, etc.) and running a ministry that requires several hours a day. But, it beats not knowing what I am going to do when they leave! Most of all, I am having to trust God on another level for the day to day. The pain and tiredness of the fibromyalgia and... Read More
