Know God
“By this we know that we have come to know Him,
if we keep His commandments.”
1 John 2:3
How ya doin’?
“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.”
Psalm 139:23-24
Knowing God is so much more than knowing about God and agreeing to the facts. God wants a personal relationship with His children. He wants us to climb up into His lap and tell Him all our joys and sorrows. He is a God of compassion and teaching. Do you “know” God? Have you felt His arms around you? Have you seen His hand at work in your life?
Then we are to keep His commandments. Not all the do’s and don’t’s for their own sake or to have bragging rights on righteousness. No! We are to keep His commandments to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” Deut. 6:5. Loving God draws us to His truth and His righteousness and His compassion and His love and His joy. Then the do’s and don’t’s aren’t burdensome, they are a joyful hedge of protection and completion.
