Response to Evil
In response to shootings in Nevada and Texas:
“We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” 1 John 5:19
“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.” Romans 16:20
All death, disease, and destruction come from Satan. He is the god of this world because God Almighty has given him that authority for a time. Evil happens in an evil world. Prayer does not always take us out of situations or protect us from evil, but prayer does draw us closer to God who promises to be with us through and to give us strength in. God also allows us to respond to evil with love and grace. His word gives us the eternal perspective and hope that loved ones are in heaven with Jesus, and He comforts us here on earth.
“Vengeance is Mine, thus saith the Lord” (Deut. 32:35 and Hebrews 10:30). Satan and those who choose to follow his evil ways will be judged for eternity. Hate and anger and revenge only hurts the one wanting to dish it out. We are to give over the desire for vengeance to God and allow Him to judge and execute that judgment.
Lord, this day, we pray that you would be near to those who have suffered evil by the hand of these shooters. We pray that they would experience your closeness and Your love. Thank you that their loved ones who knew You were gathered into Your arms and are awaiting their arrival in heaven. Let this be a comfort to those who remain upon this earth. Father, prepare our hearts for battle against the evil that comes into our world. Help us to hear and trust Your commands and to prove courageous in battle. Amen.
