Truth or Lies?

“I have not written to you because you do not know the truth,

but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth.”

1 John 2:21

This statement seems so obvious because truth and lies are opposites.  But what we know and what we do are sometimes two different things altogether!  John is assuming that our core beliefs, our truth, will work itself out in our actions.  If you ask any psychologist, he will attest to this as well.  We behave out of what we believe.  So if our behavior is lying, then we don’t really believe that God is who He says He is or that He will do what He says He will do.  If we rely on lies to get us out of scrapes or to make us look better than we are not trusting in the truth of God’s word.  It is either true and we can stand on it, or it is not true.

What do your actions tell others about your belief in God’s truth?
