Days and Days of Monotony

We often drive through west Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Last year we took a trip that also included Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oklahoma. We did eventually get to see some mountains, but there was a whole lot of grassland and desert to cross first. But even in the mundane of desert land, cactus, mesquite, and flat land there was beauty. Tracy saw two or three coyotes. (I was sleeping!) The clouds and sky were ever changing and beautiful. The farms and occasional small town broke up the days and days of monotony. Sometimes I feel that life is... Read More

The Habit of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time where we focus for a few minutes, at least, on giving thanks for all that God has done for us and all the stuff we have. The obvious are usually the first give : family, friends, salvation. But what if you were asked to write 50 things that you were thankful for? Could you do it? Psalm 100 says that we are to, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.” This is easy when we remember that, “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is... Read More

From the moment of cognition until the day we die, we make choices.  What to wear, who to have a relationships with, what to do, when to wake up, when to go to bed, the list is endless. But with choices come responsibility.  With responsibility comes maturity. As a wife and mom it is sometimes easier to make choices for my husband and children, but by doing so, I rob them of a chance to grow. Growing includes making mistakes. Making mistakes is a privilege of making choices. and from our mistakes we can learn valuable lessons. Each of my... Read More

God’s Provision is Always Enough

God’s provision is always enough and always on time. “For every beast of the forest is Mine, The cattle on a thousand hills” Ps. 50:10. We have often prayed, “God, You own a thousand cattle on a thousand hills, please butcher one and send me the money for ___________!” We are only jesting, but the principle is true: God owns everything! His provision is always enough.I do not believe or teach that God will give me anything I want if I just have enough faith, or if I just claim it. My salvation is based on Jesus, and only Jesus. My relationship... Read More

Jesus is Wisdom

Proverbs 4:7-9 says that: “The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; And with all your acquiring, get understanding. Prize her, and she will exalt you; She will honor you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a garland of grace; She will present you with a crown of beauty.” Jesus is wisdom, so if you replace “wisdom” with “Jesus” this is how it reads: “The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire Jesus; And with all your acquiring, get understanding. Prize Jesus, and He will exalt you; Jesus will honor you if you embrace Him. He will place on... Read More

Uniquely You

Aren’t you glad that God made us all so different?  He sure had a sense of humor when he made me! Some of us have freckles, some have dark skin, and some light.  Some of us are extroverts and others are introverts.  Some laugh easily and sing a lot; others are quiet and shy.  Some of us need words of affirmation, and others just need a look of approval or a touch of love. You are uniquely you. My three daughters-in-law (see picture) are very different from each other: from their backgrounds to the way they parent to their senses of... Read More

Delight Yourself in the Lord

Twins!  Double pediatric costs, two cribs, two car seats. I thought it was hard when they were born almost 24 years ago. Later it was double college applications, two sets of scholarship applications, two colleges requiring papers and information! But always, twice the joy! These two young men are so different as adults. One continues to pursue his dream of becoming a missionary pilot, the other is loving marriage and fatherhood and growing as a computer technologist. It is so great to look at these two young men and see how God has prepared each of them uniquely and differently... Read More

You Are a New Creature of Infinite Worth

On what do you gauge your self worth? Is it your performance, your looks, others’ opinions, or God’s Word? 2 Cor. 5:26 says, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” God says that we are a new creature of infinite worth! Part of the Christian walk is to find out what this new creature looks like and what God says about it. A great Bible study to do is to go through the New Testament and write down all the adjectives that describe you as a... Read More

The Holy Spirit Living Within Us

I don’t know about you, but as I read the Old Testament, I can sure be judgmental. If I was an Israelite back in the time of the Exodus, the time of Jeremiah, etc., I would have been true to God! But God reminded me this morning that we have a new covenant that these people did not have. We have the Holy Spirit living within us, teaching us, training us, rebuking us, and comforting us. We can have a relationship with God, they could not. They stood afar off from Mt. Sinai as God spoke to Moses. They had... Read More

God of Compassion

So often I hear that the God of the Old Testament was such a judging God. But if you truly read the OT, you will see instead a God of compassion, love, and patience. He is Father God and wants the best for His children. He provided the best for the Israelites, but they had to choose to go in and take it. Instead they chose the way of the nations around them. God knew that there was so much more – a relationship with Him! So, God punished the Israelites again and again, not in judgment, but in love... Read More
