Security
I want to feel secure, wrapped with love and protection, unafraid of the chaos and evil of this world. Don’t you? I did a word search on the word security in the Bible. I was surprised at what I found, but then again, not so surprised. Let me tell you what I mean. Security is only found in the Old Testament. The Jews were assured security in the land as part of the blessings if, and only if, they continued in God’s ways. They did not. Security is also mentioned in the prophesies of the end times such as in Isaiah:26:1, “In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: ‘We have a strong city; He sets up walls and ramparts for security.'” And in Zechariah 14:11, “People will live in it, and there will no longer be a curse, for Jerusalem will dwell in security.” But nowhere in the New testament are we assured of security here on earth.
How can this be? I need security! (Foot stomp!) Let me assure you that there is security in Jesus. My soul is secure. I know that even though man may kill my body, I will be with Jesus for all of eternity in the eternal security of His love and arms. Here on earth, man may torture Christians (look to the past and the present); they may ridicule, reject, and abandon Christians, but we find our security in Christ , and that, they cannot take away from us.
Satan is the prince of the power of the air, the god of this word, the destroyer. His hand and minions are against Christians even now. He is the god of death, disease, and devastation. He wins on the earth for a time. But Romans 16:20 reminds us, “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.” If Satan comes against you, your family, or your church, don’t be surprised. That is what he does. But “Greater is He who is in me than he that is in this world.” (1 John 4:4).
Then why doesn’t God provide security for us here? Why doesn’t He protect us? He does! More than we will ever know here on earth. If God were to retract His Spirit from us and this world, evil would overcome every one of us instantly. His angels stand between Satan and us, guarding us and preserving us for the day we will stand before God, tried and triumphant! Sure, God allows some to die for their faith, some to be persecuted in prison, others to be rejected, but He is always with us, promising that He will use even the evil around us for our good. I don’t claim to understand it all right now, but some day I will. For now it is enough, that He is with me and will walk with me through whatever evil He allows to come my way even unto death where the greatest victory is won-life eternal with God!
